My route to Flabob from the West was KWHP>DARTS>KCNO>KRIR at 5,500'. When I got over the Chino hills, SOCAL told me to proceed direct Flabob. At about 10 miles out SOCAL on 135.4 told me transition through Riverside was approved, and I could switch to Flabob CTAF, nice!, didn't even have to talk to Riverside tower! We joined the left downwind for runway 24 and headed right for the cross on Mt. Rubidoux, (On a clear day, if you line up the cross with some storage tanks on the other ridge about three miles distant, you are exactly at pattern altitude and heading.) I could actually see the hikers on the trail up to the top, that's when it's time to turn base. We had a little trouble finding the transient parking. It turns out the marking are very small and the spots are right in front of the old DC-3. The airport cafe has lots of character, it's like a trip back in time, has good food, and friendly service. Departing Flabob on runway 24, we went from the CTAF on 122.8, during the climbout, and immediately checked in with Riverside tower on 121.0, they were very helpful, and we switched to SOCAL to set up flight following immediately after that, you will be either in the Chino class delta, or Ontario's class charlie depending on your rate of climb, so be sure to be talking to one of them! A beautiful CAVU day for flying a Cessna G1000, thanks Brian for the camerawork!
