Flying to Bermuda Dunes

Through the Banning Pass

ride so smooth she slept the whole way

Banning Pass

our girl loved the cats that ran the terminal building

Bermuda Dunes (KUDD) is the closest airport to Palm Desert and it has cheaper overnight parking than Palm Springs International.   It is right next to the 10 freeway and the railroad tracks, so it's a little hard to spot from the air.   We entered the Banning Pass at 5,500',  SOCAL is usually on 134.0 on the West side of the Pass, and 126.7 on the East side of the pass.  The same freqs were used going back home the other way as well.  They will lose you on radar while you are going through the middle.  We has a smooth ride overall, just a few moderate bumps as we exited the pass.   At KUDD you'll notice the 2 cats that have free run of the building.   Don't sit on any of the chairs in the lobby or pilots lounge, unless you want cat hairs all over you, it's everywhere!  Murph's Gaslight Restaurant is at the airport.  It's an Irish Pub themed place that was formerly a raquet club..  They have fried chicken, burgers and sandwiches, and you get your landing fee waived if you eat here. Overnight parking is $10 per night.  Going home, there was an advisory for turbulence (AIRMET Tango) all over Socal below 14K in the forecast, so we thought it would be a long flight going home.  It turns out there was just a few small bumps on our climb out from KUDD, then it was smooth as glass all the way home at 6,500' even through the Banning Pass!

  1. Great post!
Flew in here a couple of weeks ago from Nor Cal. Arrived in the dark and winds were from the east.
Difficult approach in the dark with nothing to provide glide slope info.
