Flying the G1000
Robert did some G1000 training with me. Instead of the traditional round "steam gauges", the Garmin "glass cockpit" Cessna is equipped with the modern dual flat panel displays for instrumentation, engine monitoring, and navigation. We took a trip out to Redlands (KREI). This is 210 Freeway westbound, 4500' over Fontana.

The last drop of the season for 2012, before going back to Canada, one of the pilots was retiring so there was a special photo op session, so long water bombers...
Big Bear Airport Runway 8
We did a burger run up to Big Bear. My families first time flying there. Runway 8 was in use, so it was my first time flying final over a lake, fun! Probably no big deal around many parts of the country, but not common around Socal. I used the arrival procedures on the Big Bear Airport website which calls for staying south of the airport, then joining the right downwind for runway 8. We were flying into the sun all the way back, which always happens when I go to these Easterly airports, but at least it made for a beautiful sunset on the last 10 minutes of the flight.
Our Trip to Kitty Hawk, NC
This is where it all began, The Wright Brothers Memorial at Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This is also the location of KFFA, First Flight airport.
Our Trip to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport is the companion facility to the Museum on the National Mall.
